MHS was established by Bernie Graham in 2006 and is committed to facilitating training that both raises awareness of mental health problems and also provides a means of addressing these serious health concerns for all organisations. The training is appropriate for customer focussed businesses and organisations, particularly for those providing care and support.

Mental health problems are far more common than most people realise:

The Royal College of Psychiatrists estimates 1 in 6 working age adults experience diagnosable mental health problems at any given time. (The Royal College of Psychiatrists: Mental Health & Work 2008)

In 2010 The Centre for Mental Health  estimated that the cost of health & social care provided by the NHS and local authorities for people with mental health problems is £21.3 billion and the costs to the economy in terms of lost productivity, absenteeism, and people's ability to work effectively is £30.3 billion. In addition the human cost is estimated at a staggering £53.6 billion. The report concludes:

"Timely and effective responses to people with mental health difficulties are excellent value for public money. They can make a massive difference to people's lives and create both immediate and long-term savings to public finances and to the wider economy."

An Introduction to MHS Training by Simon Weston

"I've known Bernie Graham, Director of MHS, both as a friend and colleague for some 20 years. As well as being a leading specialist in his field, I am aware that, like myself, his passionate commitment to raising mental health awareness within all sections of society, also stems from direct personal experience.

MHS has built an impressive list of clients in a relatively short time, all of whom would, I am sure, acknowledge Bernie's warmth, commitment and humanity as well as his exceptional ability as a trainer. I hope to continue to develop new projects with Bernie for many years to come."
